I'm not so sure I agree, partially because I suspect the authentic turn is happening now, and by the 2030s I reckon it'll be gone again. Your framing of the 2010s vs 20s is interesting, and I think you're right to note the plasticity of identity now compared to a decade ago. I do wonder what it might look like if that trend accelerates... and that is what I suspect 2030 holds for us. Awesome read and good thoughts to consider!
Really interesting reflection. I agree that 2010-20 identity is not fixed and might have been modular, but I feel that to be coherent, deep down, there must be an essence.
Also, I think that we’re already shifting towards the 2030s “trend” you mention –authenticity, emotion, “rawness”, etc.
Interesting post!! Time will tell what will happen! Xx
loved this, I think it goes hand in hand with the internet conversation of Gen Z being afraid to be perceived 'cringe'. We are going way too far and the pendulum needs to swing to authenticity
I liked this a lot. I feel like the narrative that identity should be uniform across all areas if your life is maybe why people are so intent on categorizing everything and finding one thing that fits. if we let things be more fluid, I think we’d be collectively more okay with contradictions and holding many identities at once.
I’ve been trying to think more of my identity as my essence and approach to things instead of tying it to external markers
I have been feeling lost with my identity lately and I think I found my answer! As a Gen-z I’m trying to explore and find the right identity for me feeling pressured to constantly rebrand. So I totally agree with everything you’ve written 🦢 Can’t wait to see what the future holds for us. I also feel a change is coming…

Could not agree more with a lot here! I think it apparent that we are entering play and experimentation period, now until probably 2030
