Happy new year everyone! I’m excited for a new year full of experiences and opportunities, and as I mentioned in my vision for 2025 post. A year where I want to provide more personal guidance in your journey as an art director, whether it’s as an aspiring junior, a career change or for learning a new skill that can help you across other life ventures like starting your own business, become a better photographer or designer.
This is my first art direction brief that I’d like to do monthly or seasonly if it’s a bigger project. It’s for paid subscribers, so if you want to be part of this, consider upgrading to paid.
Behind the paywall you can expect:
A Google Slides template that you can use to build the deck and share the link with me for feedback. A deep dive on Gohar World with the visual elements that make their brand, as a foundation for your project so you don’t have to do your research. And of course, a detailed project briefing, some sparks and tips.
I am planning to have two feedback moments this month. One where you present your initial moodboard (you can also present multiple options) and concept. Then based off that feedback you will be fleshing out the mood board over multiple elements to make a well-rounded art direction. I will leave notes and write up a message for you based on your Google Slides, this will be written feedback.
Don’t be intimidated if you’ve never done this before, I will guide you with every step and will be available for questions along the way. I will also open up a special thread in the chat with other paid members so you can all help each other out.
There are many types of art direction, so I wrote the briefing in the way that you can pick what type of art direction is most suitable for you.
Editorial/campaign focused with an emphasis on photography, casting, set design and styling.
Graphic design focused, where we focus on building out each element as a briefing for a designer.
Concept focused, think of an activation that could be an event, website experience or anything else.
As you could’ve guessed from the title, we will be creating a Valentines Day Special for Gohar World. Note that this post is in no way associated with Gohar World, this is just a brand I find inspiring and has a clear point of view. It’s a fictional briefing for educational purposes.
