Hello! I found you recently through your post about research. I really got a lot out of it and found it relatable, thank you! I’m a graphic designer and a visual artist. I am a senior level designer in my company but feel I have so much more in me that I’m capable of, that I want to grow into. Like you, I’ve also been looking for advice or training for art direction for the last several years, but what’s out there all feels abstract and unhelpful to me. I’m excited for what I can learn from what you are putting together here.
Hi Kristen! Welcome ❤️ If you ever have topics you’d love me to cover, feel free to send me a message. I find it so interesting how little there was about art direction while it’s such a big part of the job
So nice to get to know you more, I've truly enjoyed your writing since finding it, I've learned so much. Your work has inspired some of my writing, even, and your pure intention and focus really comes off your words so I am confident your dreams will all be realized. 🙏
Thank you so much Marie!! It’s so interesting to me that real people read what I write, I can sometimes simply just post and not look at it anymore. And love to hear that it inspired your writing! ❤️❤️
Wow 2 years, thank you for sticking around ❤️ I feel like over the last two years my writing has changed quite a lot with my interests organically and I find it so honouring that people stay here and keep reading <3
Great to hear more about you. I am a recent arrival to your column and completely agree the areas you write about are rarely covered. I have recently read a book called Fashioning Fiction about a MOMA exhibition earlier this century about 90s fashion narratives that explores some similar ground. I try to make sense of it all but much is shrouded in mystery. For example, how the use of these fashion and brand narratives actually translate into sales, the grubby part of the equation. Thank you for your enthusiasm and insights!
Thank you Andrew! I’m not familiar with this book, but it sounds exactly what I’m looking for so I’ll definitely dig into this. If you have ever any topic’s you’d love me to cover, feel free to suggest 🫶🏼
The proper title is Fashioning fiction in photography since 1990 by Susan Kismaric and Eva Respini, published by MOMA. Another title I am yet to get through is Fashion at the Edge by Caroline Evans, looking at the dark themes of 90s fashion, which might help me full in some other parts of the puzzle. 😀
Zoë I’ve been following you for probably more than a year and this share shifted how I see you and your work. I was already thrilled to follow you. Your publications are such an invitation to meaningful creative work, part of your background plus a bit of your story really explain why your online presence feels so honest. As a true artist you’ve been creating what you wished existed, putting yourself in rooms without thinking twice. Such an inspiring read on this Saturday morning. Excited to keep following your journey :)
It’s lovely to meet you, Zoë!
likewise! Thank for being here <3
